Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, and that means it’s time to put your thinking cap on for ways to show Mom just how special she is. Given the current social distancing climate, you may need to do things a little differently this year. But with some creative thinking, you can make this Mother’s Day one that Mom will treasure for years to come. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Celebrate with a card

Set the tone for the day with a heartfelt Mother’s Day card. Craft your own the old fashioned way, or, head online to a site like Paperless Post or Evite for great designs that you can personalize  and send to  Mom’s inbox.

Breakfast in bed

There’s nothing like the royal treatment of breakfast in bed. It doesn’t even have to be fancy (as long as she doesn’t have to prepare it, Mom will love it). Be sure to clean up the kitchen to keep those good vibes flowing! Does your Mom live elsewhere?  Use a delivery service like UberEats or Skip The Dishes  or DoorDash to send her breakfast, and then hop onto a video-chat, to enjoy it together. And for those who love to sleep in, a dinner order is a great gift too!

Coupons for chores

Now that we’re all spending time at home, the chores seem to be nonstop. Create coupons pledging your help to pitch in on things like laundry, making beds, unloading the dishwasher, cooking, ironing, vacuuming, even dusting. Have younger kids? They can take part with simple tasks like lining up shoes or cleaning up toys.

Create a home spa

Pamper mom from the comfort of home. Prepare a candlelit bubble bath for her, give her a manicure or pedicure, or even a homemade facemask.

Bake a batch of something for Mom

Many Canadians are turning to baking while under lockdown – and you have flour and some ripe bananas you can whip up some delicious dishes! Find a recipe at Good Housekeeping, Chatelaine and Epicurious;  this app even suggests recipes with the ingredients you have, so you don’t have to go to the grocery store.

Play with a playlist

Put together a playlist of mom’s favourite songs using an app like Spotify, Apple MusicGoogle Play Music or Amazon Music – note that some of these are free, while others may require a subscription. Get creative and make themes for different playlists: songs to chill, songs to work out, songs to go walking, songs to listen to around the house … you decide!

It’s time to enjoy gardening again

It’s the season when homeowners get busy in the garden. Happily, the ban has been lifted on garden stores, and many are offering curbside pick-up. So order what you need in advance and spend the day getting your front and backyard looking great.

Tackle a project on Mom’s To Do List

If your mom is like most, she has a To Do List that never seems to get shorter. You likely already know about what she wants done: maybe it’s a small painting project, a cleaning/organizing project, minor repairs around the home, or even cleaning out the car.  Why not spend the day tackling one of those? Making Mom’s list one item shorter is sure to make her day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there… let’s hope next year we’re all celebrating together!
